The Extremely Rare Harpy Eagle Looks Like Human In Halloween Costume

Did you know that the size of an eagle’s talon is about as big as a human hand? Well, you better believe that the rest of the bird is pretty impressively sized too. Just take the harpy eagle for example – this majestic eagle is so massive (and kind of goofy looking) that people actually think it’s a human wearing a bird costume!

The eagle can weigh up to 22 lbs (10 kg) and their wingspan can reach up over 7 feet (2.13 m) – talk about a flying giant!

Named after the Greek mythology monsters, the extremely rare animal is found in Central America and South American rainforests. The Brazilians called the animal the “Royal Hawk.” The magical creature inspired the design of Fawkes the Phoenix in the Harry Potter films.

The bird has a wingspan of over 7 feet and nearly the identical claw size of a grizzly bear. So massive some people think it looks like a human in a costume.

But this powerful raptor is not your worst nightmare, even if the animal can snatch a monkey or a sloth out of a tree for dinner (see video after the jump).
